“Duet for Theremin & Lap Steel weaves the sounds of these unlikely instruments into one sometimes pretty, sometimes scary, always captivating dronescape.”
— Creative Loafing Atlanta
Scott Burland (Theremin) and Frank Schultz (Lap Steel) are mutually preoccupied with the “traditionally unconventional” sounds of Theremin and Lap Steel guitar. Scott and Frank have been long time friends, but have only recently come together to combine the sounds of these two non-fixed pitch instruments. Their name describes the instrumentation, but does not give you the full spectrum of what sonic sundries they impart; open with rich textures, swooning collages, and hypnotic pulses, like a warm bath in the aural abyss. The result is at once familiar and alien: wildly, inarguably unique and yet commonly understood for its strangeness and beauty.
Frank Schultz and Scott Burland have long been involved in the Atlanta music scene, playing together and with others at the Destroy All Music Festivals, Mattress Factory Shows, eyedrum Improvisational Series, Public Domain, as well as appearing on WREK 91.1FM, WRAS 88.5 FM, at the Annual Improv Festival in Athens, GA and with the Center for Puppetry Arts.
