Imagine John Bonham with the Talking Heads or The Who playing soul covers. Throw some deep American South in there and a sprinkle of 21st century swagger and you have the burgeoning sound of Willie and the Giant. Comprised of 3 Alabamians and one Georgian who connected up in Nashville, TN the band’s Southern roots are identifiable but the sound owes just as much to British Invasion era pop. Will Stewart’s catchy, accessible tunes are framed by an unrelenting rhythm section and guitars that fluctuate between the sweet and nasty. In a short span WATG have crafted a blistering yet thoughtful live set. Their debut LP is slated for Fall 2014.
